General

Leather is a natural product and a collective term for any animal skin or hide that has been preserved, this process is known as tanning. As with all natural products there may be slight variations in texture(grain) or colour. The leather referred to in the strap descriptions on this site is cattle leather.

Two commonly used terms in watchstrap construction are "remborde" and "cut strap".

Remborde construction is a method employed by top manufacturers. In brief the layers of leather used are wrapped around each other, and any lining, and the stitching permeates all of these layers. This results in a durable strap that resists sweat, moisture etc. entering between the layers of leather.

A Cut Strap is more simplistic in design which in itself can be appealing. The leather is cut or punched into the shape of the strap, glued and stitched and the straight cut edges sealed. Made correctly, a Cut Strap need be no less durable and the uniform thickness across the strap can be aesthetically pleasing.

Watchstraps sold by Simply Straps are not constructed with leather from endangered or exotic species.

Simply Straps uses recycled and/or recyclable paper and packaging.
